The Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem is an initiative of The Winston-Salem Foundation, which also provides significant administrative and operating support for The Women’s Fund. The Winston-Salem Foundation is a community foundation that supports charitable programs in the greater Forsyth County area. The Foundation’s mission is to make philanthropy and its benefits available to all.
Founded in 1919 by Colonel Francis Fries with a $1,000 gift, it now administers over 1,200 funds created by charitable individuals and organizations, and had total custodial assets of $244 million at the end of 2009. In 2009, the Foundation granted more than $17 million to charitable causes, almost $2 million of which were in Community Grants.
The Foundation offers personalized service to make giving easy, flexible and efficient; local expertise with knowledge of current community issues to make giving as effective as possible; and community leadership in bringing together diverse voices and groups to address issues, foster greater giving and support high-impact opportunities in our community.
The Women’s Fund is most appreciative of The Winston-Salem Foundation for their generosity; their support allows the majority of our income to be invested back into the community to change the lives of women and girls.
